How our carefully selected imaging supports successful treatment, a great experience
Technology is not a substitute for skilled and dedicated professionals. But, at the office of Stephen Huber, DDS, we blend state-of-the-art technologies with the expertise of top talent in the Leawood, Kansas, area. We use advanced tools to both diagnose and treat patients. In fact, accurate diagnostics is fundamental to our proactive, preventative dentistry approach. Systems like 3D cone beam imaging help to support a complete and precise understanding of the health of your teeth, gums, and tissues. Only then can we know the best options to restore or sustain your healthiest smile.
I’m worried about a tooth. How do you know what’s wrong with it?
Schedule an appointment right away! Dr. Huber will want to take a close look at what is going on with that tooth. So he can find out what may be causing your concerns – be it sensitivity, pain, or changes in how it looks and functions. He will start by visually “inspecting” your mouth. Then, Dr. Huber can order imaging to see what cannot be seen unaided, with the eyes alone. The information from these images is used to determine the cause of your aching tooth and other symptoms. From there, Dr. Huber can make the most well-informed recommendations for treating the tooth.
Should I be worried about radiation from imaging?
No! We use digital technologies that emit ultra-low-dose radiation during the process of making these images of your mouth and associated structures. Cone Beam imaging or Computed Tomography is no different. In fact, it’s estimated that radiation exposure in CBCT scans is up to 10 times less than that of “conventional” CT scanning. Your safety is our priority. You can trust that any technologies have been carefully selected for their clinical safety and effectiveness.
How is CBCT different from “regular” CT scans?
In addition to the benefits mentioned above, CBCT is designed to go all the way around the patient. This special, rotating arm allows us to capture numerous images of the mouth, neck, nose, ears, and throat at various angles. This characteristic provides us with a truly complete picture of the condition of your mouth and surrounding tissues.
Is it messy or uncomfortable?
Your comfort is also our priority. Before you know it, the scan will be completed. The scan itself is also super-easy and simply involves sitting still for around 20 to 40 seconds as the arm rotates around you. And, yes, we can scan your entire mouth in under a minute! We can also pull up 3-dimensional images on a monitor and point out the source of your problems. This helps you to better understand our recommendations for treatment or oral care because you know the nature of the conditions that we need to treat.
