Supporting prompt treatment and preventing damage: FAQs about DIAGNOdent™ laser cavity detection
At Stephen Huber, DDS, we have invested in an array of technologies that cannot be found at other dentists’ offices in Leawood, Kansas, and beyond. These technologies are not just “nice to market”; they have real value for our patients. Diagnostic technologies like the DIAGNOdent™ are essential. We must understand the health and condition of your teeth, gums, and mouth in order to make those recommendations that will effectively resolve any underlying problems.
Why did you choose DIAGNOdent™?
DIAGNOdent™ does not “just” support an accurate diagnosis and treatment. It also supports the most prompt interventions. Generally, many oral conditions are associated with very subtle symptoms early on, if there are symptoms at all. So, it is easy for patients with early-stage decay to think that their teeth are healthy because they haven’t noticed any concerning changes. By incorporating DIAGNOdent™ into routine preventative visits, we can spot problems you didn’t know you had. In turn, we are able to stop the progression of decay. Severe damage and the need for costly, aggressive treatments are avoided.
How does the DIAGNOdent™ do this?
DIAGNOdent™ is also known as “laser cavity detection.” It uses laser fluorescence technologies to highlight and isolate even very small cavities or decay in hard-to-see areas. We simply pass a small, pen-like device over the areas to be evaluated. The DIAGNOdent™ device then illuminates the damaged areas. We can clearly see what needs our attention and interventions with oral care and other professional services at our office.
Does it hurt?
No! Services at our office should never hurt or cause more pain. They do, however, treat many painful conditions. With the DIAGNOdent™, we can help you to avoid the pain of dental disease entirely. We are able to catch and stop problems before they progress. As cavities grow larger, the tooth may ache, and other serious complications arise. We avoid these complications by diagnosing and treating early-stage decay. The device itself is not invasive. As with other lasers and energy-based technologies, the DIAGNOdent™ pen does not make direct contact with the teeth. So, it is a completely pain-free experience.
Is DIAGNOdent™ right for me?
We see DIAGNOdent™ as a great preventative dentistry tool. Since it is so gentle and radiation-free, pediatric patients can benefit, too. We can easily incorporate the DIAGNOdent™ evaluation into regular check-ups for patients of all ages.
